Map Persistence

This is an extension to the Automatic Map Creation granting the ability to save maps, that have been automatically generated. Please see the Automatic Map Creation here for details on configuration and usage of the automatic map persistence.

Note: these instructions assume you have admin access to change maps

How to save an automatic map

If you have successfully configured an Automatic Map according to the instructions laid out in the Automatic_Map_Creation section you will now have three maps that you can view. A 'Sites' map, 'site a' map and a 'site b' map. Open any of these maps by first clicking on the 'Map' menu item then the 'Open' submenu item. A dropdown appears below and you can select from the available maps, then click open. The map appears on the left side and information about the map appears on the right side. Notice that the map type, it should say 'Automatic'

To save the map simply click on the 'Map' menu item then the 'Admin Mode' submenu item; which takes you into the admin mode. Once you are in 'Admin Mode' you have an extra set of menu options. If you click on the 'Map' menu item there are more choices available. To simply save the map click the 'save' submenu item. The 'Map Type' changes from 'Automatic' to 'Static' the map is now saved and will persist across OpenNMS restarts.

Adding a Node to a Static map

Open the 'Static' map, if you provisioned nodes that match the pattern for this map then the 'Map Info' will notify you that there are hidden nodes for the map. To add the nodes to the map you need to go into 'Admin Mode' by clicking on the 'Map' menu item then the 'Admin Mode' submenu item. Once you are in the 'Admin Mode' the 'Node' menu option becomes available, once you click it you will see the option to 'Add Hidden' clicking this options will add all hidden nodes.

Deleting a Node from a Static map

To delete a node from the map you must enter 'Admin Mode' by clicking the 'Map' menu item and the 'Admin Mode' submenu item. Click the 'Node' menu option then the submenu item 'Delete', this doesn't do anything until you click on the node you want to delete. Proceed to click on the node that you would like to delete. The node will disappear once you clicked on it. To release from deleting mode, you can click anywhere not on a node and it release you from the delete mode.
