The entire synchronization process discussed in the article is per node: Adding/Deleting interfaces, services, etc. What about synchronizing a group: Adding a node, deleting a node, etc? How is that accomplished by the importer?

I didn't really realize this page existed, but you should see the Importer Service page for more details on the feature.

Also, in the 1.7.x series, the importer has been replaced with a much more powerful extension of it called the "provisioner". It's been described a little in This Week in OpenNMS.
