My name is Andrea Russos.
I work for the municipality of the city of Modena, in Italy. I'm the Network Specialist of a team composed by other four excellent collegues.
We manage a network made up by nearly 300 network appliances ( Routers, Firewall, Switches, embedded-appliances ).
I started using OpenNMS in early 2001 ( the realese was the 1.1 ), and soon i got impressed by the potentiality of this great tool especially its flexibility which has grown up tremendously in these years ( before i tested other good solutions such as Nagios, Cacty, Netdisco, Cricket and also commercial tools ).
This flexibility is very important in managing networks ( net-app, servers and services ) made up by appliances of different vendors. I passed a lot of time in studying and understanding the complexity and potentiality of OpenNMS, and the results are made up by many custom service-monitoring ( great help of the discuss-list ), also for our Asterisk server: using SNMP I can monitor many non-standard services of our server farm ( nearly 150 servers ).
Now i'm very happy that my boss choose definitely OpenNMS as the only network and system monitoring tool of our Network. I hope to find a way to contribute back to the OpenNMS team every type of contribute i can make, even helping the diffusion of this great product in my country.
