The Order of the Blue Polo

Kangan Batman Institute of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) is spread over 15 campuses of which 6 are main.

I chose OpenNMS because I found it easy to understand and with a few configuration tweaks it, essentially, ran out of the box.

Now, with help from the OpenNMS documentation and the discussion group, a single standalone OpenNMS system is used by the Institute's Information Systems and Services department to monitor, notify, and report on:

• 410 nodes;
• 12,685 interfaces;
• 3593 services;
• An average of 1100 events per 24 hour period.

OpenNMS is also used as a repository of information regarding the Institute's infrastructure. The system's graphing capability has been of immense help with problem analysis and capacity planning too.
