From OpenNMS

We are evaluating openNMS against some other systems like nagios, big brother, etc. for a ~200 client system. Our needs are more application level monitoring, as sysmon is already doing a fine job of the system level stuff. I have installed and got 1.3.1 up and running, and discovered a small set of nodes and services. My first thoughts are, wow, this looks really good!

I think my next steps are:

 * Write some customized pollers that can do more application level stuff eg. verify that rmi is up with a specific serviceName available, or execute a sql query. 
 * Create some notifications rules and test them

Some frustrations - I initially tried to deploy to tomcat 5.5 / jdk 1.5, and something didn't work in the authentication layer, so I installed tomcat 4 / jdk 1.4.
